Ride Here!

The Columbia River Gorge has wonderful, year-around riding. Rather than being bloated with vehicles our roads and trails are swollen  with spectacular scenery and abundant natural wonders. There are numerous 20-100 mile routes with smooth pavement, very little traffic and wonderful scenery-think active volcanoes Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams, and Mount Hood towering above the cliffs, canyons, and waterfalls of the Columbia, Deschutes, Hood, Wind, White Salmon and Little White Salmon rivers. We have ride descriptions and maps for our favorite local road rides.

Summer

Mountains-The broad Cascade Range, including it’s three towering active volcanoes, Mount Adams, Hood, and St. Helens, provides a spectacularly forested backdrop for road and mountain bike rides. Typically, these areas stay in the 70-80-degree range in the summer and there are so many loops and spurs, many in the 20-100-mile range, that you can spend all summer exploring different rides. Summers in the northwest are DRY. Get busy!

Fall

Spectacular Color-With subdued red and brown oak stands in the east and spectacular yellow, orange, and red alders, maples, and other hardwoods in the west, riding in the (still) dry fall can be exceptional. For safety’s sake, try to keep your eyes on the road and trail!

Winter

Eagles-The Dalles is east of the “big sponge”, the Coast and Cascade Mountains, resulting in near-desert climate with only 14 inches of annual precipitation-less than one-half that of nearby Hood River! If your are going to get wet riding here, it is probably going to be during winter, but most days are dry and wonderful for rolling through gentle hills and valleys. A bonus is the plethora of wildlife , including many bald eagles. Look up too!

Spring

Blossoms-The cherry, pear and apple trees explode in the valley orchards and dogwood trees bloom in the mountains, providing a vibrant mix of colors and odors.
